Rotary kiln for laboratory Operation Manual.

1. Purpose

This equipment is designed for periodic operation and can be used continuously below 1600℃. This product is suitable for mining, geology, metallurgy, chemical industry, building materials and other departments. Carry out the firing and sintering test on the sample, and the sample can rotate continuously during the firing process, which greatly improves the firing and sintering quality of the sample. The necessary atmosphere such as oxidation and reduction can be introduced during use.

3.Structure Introduction

The laboratory rotary kiln is divided into two parts: the first part is the kiln body; the second part is the electrical control box. The kiln body part is divided into two parts: electric furnace body and power rotation. The furnace body part adopts alumina fiber furnace.The power part adopts a 60W motor, drives the transmission shaft through the reduction gearbox, and drives the furnace tube to rotate through the chain. The motor and reduction box are arranged under the furnace body,and the whole is relatively compact. The tilt of the furnace body isachieved by controlling the hydraulic device with a hand wheel.

4.Control System

The control cabinet is composed of main components such as intelligent program instrument (08B), thyristor actuator, voltmeter, ammeter, and adjustment motor instrument. The sinusoidal waveform output by the circuit achieves the purpose of power adjustment by controlling thewaveform within a week. The instrument gives The phase-shifting trigger signal can make the output voltage change between 0-360V, so it has no disturbance and no current impact, and no noise adjustment precision ishigh.

(1) Adjustment and use

  1. Check whether the control cabinet works normally. If the work is not normal, it will cause the fuse and thyristor. The first installation must

be carefully checked.

  1. Check the control cabinet for loose components and loose wires, and

then connect the main power supply to the control cabinet.

  1. According to the wiring icon, carefully connect the connection between

the control cabinet and the kiln body (control line, motor line, load line,


  1. If the wiring is correct, the main power switch can be closed.
  2. Turn on the instrument switch, power on the instrument, set the heating curve, and press the run key to run (see the instrument manual for details of instrument operation).
  1. When shutting down, turn off the instrument running key first, and wait

for the furnace temperature to drop below 400℃ before cutting off the

motor power.

5. Maintenance and common troubleshooting methods

1.The electric furnace is used for the first time or long-term use. It must be dried before use. It is kept at 200℃ for 4 hours and 600℃ for

2 hours.

2.After long-term use, lubricate the two bearings and the drive chain.

3.After the furnace tube is used at a high temperature, if the work is stopped and the rotating furnace tube is stopped, the power of the electric furnace must be turned off and the temperature of the furnace lowered to below 400°C before the power of the motor can be cut off.

4.Cracks will occur after the furnace is used at a high temperature fora certain period of time, but it will not affect the use. It can be repaired with high temperature cement during maintenance.

5. Working conditions

1.Indoor use.

2.The altitude does not exceed 1000 meters.

3.The ambient temperature is within the range of ±5~40℃.

4.The ambient humidity does not exceed 85%.

5.There is no conductive dust, explosive gas and corrosive gas that can

seriously damage metals and insulation around the electric furnace.

6.No obvious vibration and bumps.

7.After receiving the equipment, the user does not have the ability to install it. Please communicate with our factory in time. Our factory will

FAQ About lab scale rotary kiln

1.Feeding system is  by the screw feeder .its coupled with the main drive 0.6 KW
yes ,it is correct
2.We need to pass steam, as a Oxidising agent ,is there any provision in the system to inject the same.
there is no regulation. steam is ok. but water is not allowed.
3.Based on your Schematic diagram, the Temperature of the total length of the kiln will be maintained @ 900 Deg C (The set Process Temp.)
Why we are asking is – Whether we can have two zones i.e the first half with higher Temp and the second half bit lower temp.

7.In this type of lab kiln , we are going to feed charcoal ( with volatiles of 16%) impregnated with chemicals.
The charcoal when heated at higher temperatures will release some volatile gases also..Is there any provision for discharge of these gases .
That is the reason we asked the below question.. Can you please advise on this?
Carbon and flue gas would discharge in the same outlet .but i don’t know the gas have harmful substances ,flammable or explosive substance .

the RPM Of our rotary kiln is 0-3.3 rpm

Furnace tube and heating rod (silcone rods),what is your using frequency ? how many hour works per day ? how many days works per year ?

11. the set contain two parts is it right? Having the control attached with the furnace body may generate security and function problems
No matter for SHYI or SHYII, we can make control panel and furnace separated .

13. Should the kiln be fed with powder (fineness?) or granules (powder compacted with water) and what is its flow rate (kg / hour)?
It is better to use dry material, powder or granular is ok .

The equipment itself is a thermocouple to measure the temperature. The temperature controller displays the temperature. if you need It can be
made into two humidity controllers, one to test the temperature and the other to monitor the temperature, but this needs to add a certain cost

We have no way to determine the clay residence time. This equipment is aimed at a wide range of customers. We do not know the process flow

For SHYI model it is 1300 degree. For SHYII Model ,it is 1600 degree,you can run it continuously at this temperature. but better not over 12 hours .
20. Are you able to use the electrical components with UL or CSA labels?
Our lab rotary kiln is not ULor CSA approved
21. What is the kiln tube made of? Alumina , Mulite ?
22. what is the diameter and length of the tube for SHYI model ?

23. How the materials are discharged out of the kiln?
There is an electric lift at the feeding end. When the material is to be discharged, press the lift button. The entire lifting end of the feed end is higher than the horizontal position of the discharge port. The roasting material flows out to the discharge port with the rotation of the furnace tube. The long straight heat source radiates from the outside to the rotating furnace tube, which uniformly heats the material
24.Can you made the feeder and hopper you showed in the video out of high temperature plastics such as Kynar or Teflon? We prefer our materials not touching the metal surfaces.
we can make hopper and feeder in Teflon material.
25. I was wondering how long does it take to cook the clay in this machine
it is hard to give a accurate data regarding to how long does take to cook the clay without a really testing.
based on the weight :2.5kg. according to my experience, it may need 1 hours .
the time needed is depend on factors as below :
1. what temperature you want to reach ?
2. how long time you want the sample stay ?

26.With the machine it needs to be 440 volts for Australia. If i come over and bring some clay balls, do you have a test machine where we can put
some clay balls through and if i put 10kg in how much expansion have we go

we can make the machine according 440v voltage ,but there would be some exact cost .It is possible to do the test in the factory,but we need to charge 2600 USD for the testing .
If you buy this machine,we will minus 2600 usd to the order amount.
You may think it is unreasonable. but ,we charge this because :
1. according to our experience, some customers get the idea testing result in our testing.
actually,they would never buy the machine .only the testing result.
2. doing test would damage our machine To a certain extent . especially for the furnace tube.
if the machine is not brand new, no customer will buy it.
3. welcome to obseve the machine ,but doing a real test become more complicated.
